green is the new black for stylish businesses
a cutting-edge furniture designer has joined forces with the salon group to promote their shared commitment to running green businesses that don’t compromise on style.
the current eye-catching display in the window of the salon, letchworth >>> is the work of Max McCurdo, who runs reestore (click to visit site) a contemporary eco design business based in sandy. reestore create all their furniture from recycled goods like shopping trolleys, car gearboxes, washing machine drums and even convert old baths into stunning chaise lounges. Max’s work first sprung to the public’s attention when he appeared on Dragon's Den and his designs are now sold in Selfridges and his work can be seen in the Tate.
salon group co-founder Danny Eastwell said:
“we are delighted to showcase Max’s amazing designs. we always like to see our windows looking different and sparking conversation and we believe his work will do exactly that. it also gives us a chance to convey our commitment to green retailing and promote the fantastic Paul Mitchell products which are both ethical and effective.”
while he has enjoyed much national publicity since his debut on Dragons Den, Max is delighted that local people now have a chance to see his work for real as he really wants his designs to reach as wide an audience as possible.
He said:
“I am pleased to show local people my designs and, at the same time, support a salon in my area that is committed to promoting the green side of hairdressing.”
Max’s work will be in the window of the salon, letchworth until may 12th.
the faces of the salon 2010
this year's face of the salon competition, run with local papers in Saffron Walden and Letchworth, attracted a record number of entries: almost 100 were received and just 12 were selected as finalists.
the overall winners were: Rosanne Godfrey-Lockwood, an-18-year-old student from Chelmsford and Devan Mitchell, 19, from Stevenage, who is studying dance.
having been put forward by her mum, Rosanne was shocked to be among the finalists let alone the overall area winner. she had never done any modelling before and spends most of her time studying law at the University of Surrey.
Devan only recently began modelling, bravely putting herself in front of the cameras a few weeks ago for members of Stevenage Photographic Club! she, like, Rosanne is thrilled to have won not only 12 months free hair care, but the chance to model for future campaigns and promotions organised by the salon.
runners-up Emma Wick, 18 and Lauren Kramer, 18, can look forward to six-months free hair care. all 12 finalists received a complete hair make-over, a portfolio of pictures from the photoshoot and a fabulous goody bag courtesy of Paul Mitchell.
owner of the salon group and competition judge Danny Eastwell was delighted to see so many people enter the 2010 competition:
“what was so great about the competition this year was the diverse look of all the entrants. we saw some stunningly beautiful girls many of whom had really individual looks and we had to decide which look was right for our business. it was a tough job!”
